Sandile Mduduzi Xulu CA (S.A.), RA: Managing Director

Sandile is the managing director and founder of SMX, He is a prominent member of professional bodies such as the SA Institute of Chartered Accountants, Independent Regulatory Board for Auditors, the Institute of Internal Auditors South Africa, Association of Certified Fraud Examiners and the Institute of Directors in the Southern Africa. He has a working career spanning over 25 years. He has serviced various industries and gained extensive experience both in private and public sector including providing tax opinions on corporate and employees tax.

He has audited both listed and non-listed companies including cross boarder companies. He has led teams that have performed forensic investigations in private and public sector including performing accounting services.

He gained financial reporting experience in one of the big four financial institutions, Absa Group. Sandile was also a part-time tutor to third year students at the University of South Africa between 2007 and 2008 and was also the external marker for Accounting I.

He has served as a director in a number of companies as well as serving as a chairperson or member of the audit and risk committee.

Nonhlanhla Xulu: Director – Advisory

Nonhlanhla Xulu is a highly experienced professional with over 20 years of expertise in Governance, Risk, and Compliance (GRC). She joined SM Xulu (SMX) in March 2019 as Director: Advisory Services, where she leads and oversees the strategic advisory functions within organizations. Her role is centred on providing expert guidance and ensuring that clients receive high-quality advice and tailored solutions in areas such as governance, risk management, compliance, and internal audits.

Nonhlanhla holds a Bachelor of Commerce, Risk Management degree, a Postgraduate Diploma in Risk Management, and the Certificate in Performance Auditing. She has also earned management development certificates from Rhodes University and Duke University.

She is an active member of several prominent professional bodies, including the Institute of Internal Auditors South Africa, the Institute of Directors South Africa, the Compliance Institute Southern Africa, and the Institute of Risk Management South Africa.

Her career began at MSGM Masuku Jeena, which was amalgamated into PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC) in 2003. In 2010, she joined the South African Revenue Service (SARS) where her career developed until management level. Throughout her career, Nonhlanhla has gained comprehensive experience working across both the private and public sector clients where she honed her expertise in internal auditing and governance. Her vast knowledge spans a range of industries or sectors, regulatory environments, and specialized internal auditing methodologies, allowing her to bring valuable insights and solutions to SMX clients.

In addition to her role as Director: Advisory Services, Nonhlanhla Xulu is also responsible for overseeing the Corporate Social Investment (CSI) projects at SMX. In this capacity, she plays a pivotal role in ensuring that the organization’s CSI initiatives are strategically aligned with its values and mission, and that they have a meaningful and positive impact on the communities they serve.
